WS109. When the “Stuff” Starts to Pile Up: How to Navigate the Second Disaster

Inevitably following a disaster event, well-meaning do-gooders will start showing up with truckloads of stuff…prom dresses, prepared food, a gently used coffin (true story), and create what’s known as the “disaster within a disaster”.  Hurricane Ian was no exception. Piles of clothing lined communities trying to recovery from impacts and managing this was no easy task.  Hear from those who were on the ground tasked in navigating the clean-up, both on a local level, from the non-profit perspective as well as national level partners.  Know what to do next time donations start to pile up and how to turn stuff into goods.
