WS112. Panel Discussion: The Psychology of Decision-Making During Hurricane Emergencies

Esteemed Social Scientist, Dr. Laura Myers (University of Alabama), will moderate a discussion among a panel of experienced panelists having diverse perspectives on how people process and/or respond to scientific/technological information and emergency messaging.  Topics will be addressed that consider when good decisions are made and implemented within a community, and when they are not.  Contextual aspects will be entertained in light of public testimonials and social science research findings regarding hurricane risk perceptions, understanding the psychology of risk and protective action decision making, good science communication strategies, and emergency messaging that leads to optimal protective action.
