Disasters inherently affect people. As such, the critical ingredients to recovery are stable housing, employment, and social services; all things that support individuals and households. These critical categories are pillars of FEMA’s Individual Assistance (IA) Program. However, the IA program and its benefits are less understood than other federal disaster programs like Public Assistance or CDBG-DR. In this workshop, participants will learn about the Individual Assistance suite of programs, disaster housing missions, voluntary agency coordination, local case work, and the local emergency management role at each level. This session will also present real-world examples from 2022 Hurricane Ian.
