Emergency shelters are taking longer to close as clients face increasingly complex roadblocks and increasingly strained community resources. This workshop will present an overview of common activities of recovery sheltering, including roadblocks and transition needs and the engagement of governmental and community organizations in the process of supporting shelter residents transition from a shelter to more sustainable living solutions. The workshop will also explore the reality of a longer shelter operation, and what it means for the American Red Cross and local governments when residents are in shelters for three weeks or longer.
