WS130. Community Lifelines Operationalized-Hurricane Ian

The City of Cape Coral adapted the Community Lifelines concept from a reporting mechanism to an operational framework to address needs identified in the lessons learned from Hurricane Irma and an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) capability assessment. Further input from a functional exercise and a small no-notice 6-hour activation was incorporated into the redesign and allowed Emergency Management staff to successfully apply this structure during the response to Category 4 Hurricane Ian. The Community Lifelines based organization is tailored to the needs and capabilities of the city, integrates private sector partners, and fosters ownership of the process among response personnel. This workshop will discuss these concepts in an active EOC environment and lessons learned from a municipal government’s perspective.
