For many years, communities have struggled to develop a consistent approach to providing emergency support during a large-scale, community evacuation scenario (such as a major hurricane) for medically fragile individuals where the level of care exceeds the austere environment of a special needs shelter (SpNS).This is the first of a two-part workshop series that provides an interactive discussion about providing the best care and assistance for medically fragile individuals and how local community providers can strengthen their emergency operations plans to offer assistance.
Part 2 will discuss opportunities for hospitals, other inpatient and residential providers, and clinics can better support the health care needs of medically fragile individuals during emergency response.
