WS146. Implementing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Disaster Recovery

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is attracting more attention at the local, state, and national levels; however notable gaps still exist. We must work together to initiate change by focusing our efforts to include DEI concepts in all phases of emergency management by ensuring the inclusion of diverse stakeholders to represent the interests and experiences of vulnerable and underserved communities.

Join us for this informative workshop based on research conducted for the whitepaper titled, “Implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Disaster Recovery” written by Clara Decerbo, David Fernandez, Rick Kovar, and David McIntire. Understanding a population’s unique and diverse landscape, including its demographics, values, norms, community structures, networks, and relationships allows emergency managers to engage in practical actions to operationalize DEI concepts in all phases of emergency management.
