WS151. What Happens When the Government Needs Help?

As the impact from major disasters continues to grow, public expectation for assistance increases, however government resources often are limited in scope and scale specifically when considering survivor needs.  Where can those impacted go for help?  Including whole communities in your recovery planning is critical-these partners include private, public, and not-for-profit. However, do you really understand the value the NGO’s can bring to your community?  Discussion topics include engaging your local VOAD, calculating the value of service-both volunteer hours and resources, developing non-profit partner MOU’s, and understanding what each of these organizations bring to the table.
