This half-day, interactive training uses a strategy-based simulation to equip federal, state, and local government participants with a practical understanding of post-hurricane environmental response. Drawing inspiration from Sea Grant’s Watershed Game, an interactive, educational tool utilized by local leaders throughout the US, this session will engage teams in a dynamic scenario where a simulated hurricane has caused various environmental hazards, including oil spills and marine debris. Participants will be challenged to make real-time decisions on resource allocation and response strategies using a curated set of tools and data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Response and Restoration. The session’s objective is to foster a deeper understanding of the interconnected challenges of post-storm pollution and to familiarize attendees with NOAA’s resources. Through this collaborative, hands-on experience, participants will leave with a clearer picture of effective and efficient disaster response, and the critical role of inter-agency cooperation.
