Welcome to the 31st Annual Governor’s Hurricane Conference!

It’s that time again, and we’re hailing from a new city!

The 31st Annual Governor’s Hurricane Conference will be held this year at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, located in West Palm Beach, Florida. The dates for this year’s conference are Sunday through Friday, May 14-19, 2017.

This year’s theme, “Preparedness Works!” provides attendees an opportunity to focus on the many significant changes in hurricane planning and new methods to best prepare Floridians for a hurricane or tropical storm.

 

We invite you to cover the more than 1,600 emergency managers and personnel, first responders, state, federal, volunteer agency, business and industry representatives, along with health and medical professionals from around the state, nation and world as they come together during the week’s scheduled 45+ training sessions and 45+ workshops and panel discussions to train and learn from each other.

 

As in past years, the Media Room will be an important offering as part of our conference. We are here to help you and your media organization make the best use of your time and resources for coverage of the week’s activities.

To better serve your needs, I would like to inquire if your media organization is planning to cover the conference. 

Please pre-register by visiting www.flghc.org and click on “Media Room”, and include the following information: 

 

·         Your primary point of contact

·         Names, titles of reporters, photographers covering conference

·         Cell, office phone numbers; email addresses

·         Dates your news outlet will be at conference (Example: 1 day, 2 days, entire week, etc. Please name actual days if possible).

·         Technical and Parking Needs (Important for me to know in advance – will accommodate as best possible)

 
This information will help us provide the best service to your organization now, and throughout the conference week.

The Media Room is located on Level 1 of the Palm Beach County Convention Center, in Room 1J/1K. 

Media Room Hours of Operation:

·         Monday, May 15 – 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

·         Tuesday, May 16 – 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

·         Wednesday, May 17 – 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

·         Thursday, May 18 – 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  Friday, May 19 – 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

Your input / feedback will help me greatly in providing the best service to your organization now, and throughout the conference week.

GHC Media Room staff will provide journalists:

  • workspace areas
  • access to Wi-Fi (VPN card needed for internet access) to file stories
  • fax / copier machine

Interviews will be held in the Media Room’s closed off interview area, a designated quiet area near the Media Room or external locations, as available. 

 

Bryan Norcross, Senior Hurricane Specialist, The Weather Channel; Dr. Ed Rappaport, Acting Director, National Hurricane Center; Kimberly Prosser, Director, Brevard County Emergency Management and others have been invited to speak at the General Session, to be held Wednesday, May 17 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center Grand Ballroom. Again, I am awaiting confirmation on interview availability for the speakers mentioned above and will share as soon as possible.

Lastly, and most importantly, media representatives must carry media credentials. Upon arrival, please proceed to the Media Room to register and be issued a conference MEDIA badge for access to all public conference venues.
