TS22 Leveraging GIS to Enhance Emergency Management Operations and Decision-Making

This full-day training introduces emergency management professionals to practical applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for improved planning and decision-making. Participants will learn how spatial tools enhance situational awareness, coordination, and response effectiveness. No prior GIS experience is required. Participants will leave with practical tools and templates to incorporate GIS into planning, operations, and recovery efforts.

Through instruction, demonstrations, and group exercises, attendees will learn to:

  • Interpret and apply spatial data in emergency workflows.
  • Develop GIS-based strategies for resource management and disaster response.
  • Use GIS for flood planning, search and rescue, and infrastructure protection.
  • Integrate GIS into the Incident Command System (ICS) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
